GD,
I think someone tried to bring up that watch on this board too, but the link to the item was removed. Actually, there are a number of people here who care a great deal about these things but much to my dismay, it seems that open discussions of these practices are no longer encouraged. To me, the respectful and honest discussion of questionable practices [especially where live examples can be referenced] could be a great benefit to our visitors. But that's just my opinion.
By the way, you're absolutely right about the 'nothing else' part!

Mike

My opinion: Ebay discussions promote Ebay sales. There are means of discussing items that do not discuss sellers.
An example:
Columbus 18s ser # XXXXXX with the following discrepencies.
Item ID as 16s
Dial looks like an East Coast Roadmap
Jewel count is 11j but being shown as 15j
Being touted as rare and there were over 1000 made.
Case has been switched
Dial is switched
Here is what one should be. URL code to one of yours or one that you have permission to use.
There are so many of us that collect various watches that I am almost positive that an example can be shown of a legitimate article that discussing an ongoing Auction is unnecessary.
My 2 cents worth.

I can understand your feeling, but a search of eBay for "15J Columbus" turns up only 3 examples this evening, so I think anyone who wanted to find an auction could easily do so.
I think the issue is whether buyer (or seller) guidance is a proper activity for the message board.
In terms of desirability, I think it would be a good thing. However, we are in a litigious society and the fact that we do offer censorship on this board probably weakens our claim that we are only a common carrier and not responsible for the contents.
The moderators could try to edit out the libelous content, but that would make the job a whole lot harder. I suppose the NAWCC could try to claim that the moderators were solely responsible and not answerable to the NAWCC, but that probably does not hold water either.

Truth,
What truth hurts what?
Why try to hide your identity just because you're posting a link to a spot where this item was openly discussed?

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with discussion of an Ebay item in camera as it were. A few guidelines would be to make observations as matters of opinion, and to avoid overt judgements of a seller's character, etc., which might be construed as libelous.
I have found some examples to be quite educational, where knowledgeable members have pointed out details I was ignorant of.
