Are you a budding Waltham 83 collector? Or, just like to wear a watch?

Well,

I collect several kinds of pocket watch for some years now. I have this Waltham (see above) and another Waltham with the movement 1899 (from 1906) with a gold filled case. Then there are three english pocket watches (key wound/set), two of them with chain/fusee, some swiss watches (all before 1920/1930) and one verge pocket watch.

I have my collectin on my homepage (alas only in german language) at http://www.mikrolisk.de/show.php?site=202 with several images per watch.

And on my searching for a new main spring for that 1883-Waltham this board was recommended to me.

The main purpose for my collection was to have some watches to wear, thus most of my watches are suitable for daily usage.

Cheers, Andreas

Thanks so much for the email.

Aren't smaller watches easier to wear?

BTW, Steve Mercer is the 1883 man--if you need help with these beauties, contact him directly at shmercer@adelphia.net

enjoy

Oh, that 1883 isn't difficult to wear, actually it fits in that smaller right inner pocket in my jeans (thats originally was made for pocket watches!)...

Think my next watches will be "american" too, I like the quality of that movements. Perhaps then a Hamilton or Hampden to "test" these manufacturers :-)

I don't need so much help with watches, I am able to clean and oil them so far on my own (as hobbyist, not watchmaker) and have then running after too! ;-)

Best regards, Andreas

Andreas,

And, parts are readily available if you break it.

Andreas

That is a very nice example of a Grade 820.

Model 83's are very sturdy and you have a nice watch you can carry every day. One suggestion though is get yourself a leather watch chain for it. You wouldn't want it to slip and fall as you take it out of your pocket.

I already have a (metal) chain for it, I wouldn't wear it without one! But this chain is too normal so it isn't on the photo :-)

"Normal"--you mean a common link?

Well, its a really simple chain very similar to this:

To translate "Mik's" website, got to http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr, select "German to English" and enter the URL Mik has provided above (cut & paste works fine).

Nice site and congrats on your nice watch finds!

BTW: How welcome are images of old pocket watches here? It seems that really less postings have images inside!

Pictures are certainly welcome! However, most of us tend to post them to illustrate a discussion.
