This is a rather crude picture of a chrono fusee I just picked up at the bay. I actually have an identical pocketwatch already, which is in mint condition, but I couldn't pass up on the price of this one. So, now I have two of them. The dial reads: "Centre Seconds Chronograph" on both. My first one, however, is marked "E. Wise" on the movement, and has the movement # marked in red on the dial. It is identical to the pictured watch, which will be coming from England next week, in all other respects. Anyone know of the maker to these watches? Is it E. Wise, as I assume that "Harris & Sons" was the retailer for this newly aquired one. The pictured is 1887, while my other is 1888.

Thanks

Well, I can't tell you anything about your watch, but I have two similar ones:

E. WOLFE (http://barrygoldberg.net/watch44.htm)

Palin Nantwich & Market Drayton (http://barrygoldberg.net/watch11.htm)

Whoever made them, they sure are nifty!

These watches are interesting, but not rare. Although many of them have "chronograph" written on the dial, they are not really chronographs. When the slide is actuated to start or stop the center seconds hand, it starts or stops the entire watch. They would be better described as center seconds watches with a hack feature. This still makes them interesting since these features were not available on other English watches.
