It "sounds" like a 571 BWRaymond with 9 adjustment marking..

this was a late marking, 40's or later... 6 of the 9 adjustments were to position.

Hi Alex:

Fortunately, this is a well-known watch of the early 1950s and you needed bother with pictures. Its just as Terry says, a watch adjusted to six positions. The reason for the "9 Adjsutments" making was a bit of one-upmanship (the contemporary Waltham No. 1623 Vanguard was marked "8 Adjustments") and probably to clear up some confusion as to whether 8 adjustments meant adjustment to five or six positions (it was used both ways by Elgin, at different times).

Oh yes, more than about 55,000 of the grade No. 571 B.W. Raymond watches were made marked "9 Adjustments."

If you can tell us exactly what is marked on the movement on the inside of the case you'll enable us to add the information about it into a data base of railroad watches that Ed Ueberall and I maintain.

Thanks,
