British watches were not usually signed on the case; any name engraved there would generally be that of an early owner. However, it is possible that this is a Swiss movement labelled for a Bristol retailer; in Switzerland it was common practice to put a signature on the ?cuvette? (the hinged cover, pierced with two winding-holes, between the outer back and the movement). I would hazard a guess that ?dp? stands for ?déposé? (meaning, in French, ?registered? as applied to a trade mark). Is there a cross (the Swiss national arms) in the shield?
Some pictures would be useful, if this is at all possible.
