Can you please tell me how to synchronize the ships strike on a ST Helmsman? I know it doesn't count like a regular strike, but I can't recall the order and how to position the snail gear. Also, there is a brass cam attached to the back of the canon pinion that lifts the strike arm. How should this be oriented.

This is my first ship strike and it wasn't working when brought in. Thanks, Chris

8 bells at 12, 4, 8 o'clock.
1 bell at 12:30 and adds one each half hour. Steve Conover had a chapter in one of his books showing how to set it and the pics make it much easier.

Any chance those pics or description are available online? Also, what do you do with the cam on the back? Thanks, Chris

A few more questions. I notice the cam on the canon pinion has three lobes (two large and one small). I assumed the clock struck hour and half hour, but am I wrong? Since it's based on a 24 hour, military type application, am I misinterpreting when it should strike?

Help in understanding the complete sequence and how to set up the cams and warning pin if needed would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Ok, I figured out what the cam on the back of the movement does; it's there to hold the arm from striking when the clock needs to "subtract" a ding in the count cycle.

I have that all set, but I have encountered another issue. I have it set so it will count nearly perfectly through all 24 bells, but every so often (usually at one or two of the 5 bells) the lift pin for the rack advances too far and does not let the rack drop. I've adjusted it several times, but keep getting the same result.

What am I missing now?
