Hi,
I have a friend who does this type of work by mixing colored paints in Araldite.
He matches the existing colors using reds, browns, yellows etc to make a 'streaky' effect, close to the existing pattern and comes up with some pretty good results.
The Araldite base sets very hard and can be polished to look close to the original.
Perhaps you may try experimenting with it yourself ?
My friend also recovers cases with shagreen using tanned and dyed fish and sea-snake skins which he has especially produced.
