The Ball Watch Co. had watches made by various watch manufacturers to Ball's design. The Ball watches are considered a cut above the run-of-the-mill railroad grade watches and the Official RR Standard grade watches are considered collectable.

According to page 36 of "American Railroad Watches," George E. Townsend, Col. G.E. Townsend, Alma, MI, 1977 (New edition is in print, see Heart of America Press (http://www.hoapress.com)), your watch, serial number B255,431 was manufactured for Ball by the Waltham Watch Co. around 1912. It is one of a run of 21-jewel Ball Official RR Standard watches whose serial numbers range from B254,901 to B255,500.

All Ball watches (with perhaps the exception of the very earliest ones) were furnished in signed, Ball model cases. The general appearance of your watch ought to look like the one shown in this February 1911 Ad (http://www.knology.net/~ksinger/feb_1911.jpg).

It sounds like you have a very nice watch.
