View Full Version : Please can you identify this part?
Hi All,
Can you please help me identify this part that looks like a wire arm? What it's used for??
As you can see it’s on a French movement, which I am trying to restore. Please see attached photo.
Thanks for all your help.

I believe this would have originally been a hammer stop at one time. Part of it is broken off. In other words, when the hammer would strike, it would cushion the blow by limiting the stroke.
Hi Ern,
Thanks for getting back so quick, would you or anyone else have a photo of what it should look like, as I would like to restore it back as it's supposed to be.
Thanks again -Len

I believe it looked like an open saftey pin, there was a short 90 degree bend at end facing into plate, with the end supporting the hammer as stated to cushion the fall.
Hi Bill.
OK thanks for getting back to me, it's very much appreciated.

I shall amend my initial reply to also offer a picture of this piece as it was intended to operate.
The spring can be adjusted to permit a decisive hammer blow without fear of a double-strike. In addition, it also serves to remove some of the strain from the collet to which the hammer arm is attached.
Hi Ern,
Thanks for the photo it's very helpful, and is much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to get me a photo. Would it be possible to email me the photo, I would like to enlarge it and keep a copy for reference when I restore the movement. Also can you please tell me what is located on the end of the spring, I just cannot make out what it is, another reason for the photo.
Once again thanks for all your help.
