Hi,
What size do you use? Is this too high for my Pocket Watches?
Thanks,
Sheila

I find 5x is about right, although some use 10x. Can't imagine what a 30x would be like.

I use a large engraver's loupe with 2.3x for viewing watches. I use an old AO stereo microscope for higher magnification. It goes up to 75x for looking closely at jewel chips, cracks, etc.

I think an eye mounted 30x loupe would be very difficult to use because the field would be constantly in motion from small movements of the head and eye.

I like a dentist or machinist stereo loupe for a quick inspection. These are about 2.5 power and work like spectacles and give stereo vision and free both hands.

I have a 2.5 and 3 power sets and use both.

I had a 14 power and a 20 power loupe and traded and or sold them.

You should have 5 to 10 power available as either an eyeglass eyeball or hand loupe for close looks at jewels, screw heads and levers.

Lighting is also an issue and it gets worse as the power increases.

Well, lets see, I have:
(1)2.5X
(1)5X
(1)10X
(1)10X (with a head springie thing)
(1)10X21mm
(1)Hand held lighted ? power (For Purse)
(1)Large lighted one, that goes on a desk or
whatever, that falls over all the time.

Problem is, something is not right, I am having a problem with them. One I have to back up with, one I have to almost crawl inside of it, I have to get so close.

I think I may try the ones that let me be hands free and try a smaller power?

Only one of the ones I mentioned is a good one though. the 10X 21mm, The others are cheap.

My eyes are changing lately though, poo I hate getting old!

Reminds me of an old George Gobel joke;

"I have two pairs of glasses...I use this pair to find my other pair"

Getting older isn't so bad when you consider the alternative...not getting older :frown:
