Hi,I just bought a Waltham Wm Ellery 11j size 18
in a Blauer invisible joint case I've never seen.A 3oz coin silver case.circa 1885. My question is do you think this is a good watch to carry on a daily basis,I know it's a lower grade watch but has been kept in good condition and running well. Thanks RB

If it keeps time and runs well, and you don't have a problem with a bulky 18s man's watch, in my opinion it is a good carry watch.
I like to carry an old Hampden circa 1880 (or 82 I forget) which also has just 11 jewels, in a nickel case.
I prefer to wear nickel cases, as I know I won't damage or wear it out. Silver is little more delicate, but is certainly more classy!
Sounds like a nice find!

Thanks Wes I appreciate it.Since I am new to collecting, This has been the best and most friendly to new collectors and non collectors alike. It's great to be able to go to a web site and not sound like a idiot because you haven't been at it for years. Thanks Randy B
Hey Randy -
Feel free to post photos of your Waltham if you get a chance.
Is it an 83 model?
The case sounds most interesting too.

In my opinion I would rather carry a 16s, smaller watch--common RRs usually keep better time if serviced regularly.

I used to carry my old 57 Model Waltham, #12300 every day. It kept decent time, and you can bet it got comments. Plus, it was so loud in school the whole classrom could hear it ticking.
Chaz - They are lucky it was not 18,000 loud beats per hour!
