According to the serial number, your watch was made about 1910, and is a 0 size, grade 320 with 7 jewels. (For more information about Elgins, go to http://elginwatches.org/ - you'll need to paste or type the address into your browser window, as a direct link to the site from here is not possible.)

The serial number on the case doesn't mean a whole lot these days - up until the 1920s or so, most watch movements and cases were made by separate companies and sold individually. A customer would select a watch and case that they liked, and the jeweler would "marry" the two. The case may or may not be solid gold - if you can tell us what's written on the inside cover (or better yet, post a picture), we should be able to give some info about its composition for you.

I don't have a mechanism yet for you to upload the pictures yourself but I am working on that.

In the meantime, you can send me pictures and I will post them for you. Please try to make them large enough to show detail. 800 pixels wide is a good size. When I post them I make 120 pixel high thumbnails for them automatically. That lets me put about 100 or so on each web page and still have it load quickly.
