Are the letters and numbers on the movement (works) of the case.

If it is hallmarked with a date letter it was at least cased in England. The movement could be American English or Swiss.

'JR' within a diamond was the case stamp used by the Coventry firm of Rotherhams around the date you give.

If you care to give more details (number, etc) and post images of the movement I could hopefully give a positive identification.
