Grand Prix labeled watches are commemorating the fact that the company won the Grand Prize at an industrial competition in the years noted. They put these marks on the cuvette typically for about 15 years after the event. In the case of some makers the marks continued for 50 years or more.

Since there were lots of years and lots of fairs, almost every watch company could win a couple of them.

The marks have no real meaning.

They cetainly have nothing to do with automobile racing.
