Hi I need to make up my mind on 2 watches. I am going to purchase one.The first one is a Columbus circa1886 15jewels open face 2small hairlines.working good. The second watch is a Waltham Wm Ellery(champion)11jewels circa1884 no hairlines both are the same price. The Waltham has just been serviced.I know the dealer of the Waltham and is trustworthy.I am new to collecting so I don't want to make another mistake. Thanks for your help Randy.
P.S.Both have double sunk dials and both movements are in great shape. The Columbus has some demaskeening and the Waltham is gilt.

Freshly, and, assumed, properly serviced is significant, especially if you plan to wear this watch a lot.

Except for that, I think the 15J Columbus is a higher grade movement. If you are only going to wear the watch occasionally its a tougher choice but I'd recommend the Columbus assuming the dealer has not done any funny business.

There is a lot of room in this choice for personal preference.

Thanks Dr.Jon.Since I am still new to collecting, Only 2 years. I don't want to make my earlier mistakes and buy junk. But I did look back and found out I have dealt with the Columbus dealer before and his watch is working and keeping good time,Thanks for your advice.Randy
