Dear friends
I've got a Pocketwatch which is signed on the dustcover " J.M. Badollet". Can someone tell me something about that watchmaker? That what I found until now is, that there was a watchmaker-family in switzerland which produced precision-watches from the middle of the 17th century to the end of the 19th century. Some sons of the family left switzerland and went to the U.S.
I think, my watch is from the end of the 19th century, but isn't produced in switzerland but in the U.S. I think so, because the micrometric regulator of the Badollet is often used in Elgin watches.
All the best

JM Badollet is highly regarded by many. See last Jones-Horan where one appearing similar to yours was sold. BTW they desscribed it as the only known example. You can check the phots and compare

I have seen pictures of at least three of these late Badollet movements. Although they have many characteristics reminiscent of Elgin and other American watches I have not seen any other documentation to indicate that they were actually made in the U.S. My hunch is that they were made in an American style to make them more readily accepted in the U.S., Canada and perhaps Mexico.

Badollets I have seen were definitely Swiss even those with Elgin style regulators.

search on this MB gives this:old ref::Badollet
Peter
I've just looked at one the threads that was referenced in the search, old ref::Another Scan of an Odd Piece, and saw old ref::Harvey's / Ed's Movement. Am I missing something? The movement screams Longines to me. Perhaps something akin to their calibre 21.29 or 21.60.
