Ebay will annonce later on tonight or tomorrow some broad and sweeping changes to help combat watch fraud.
A host of watch brand names (and many other brands inthe jewelry category as well) will no longer be allowed to be sold or bought from China and Hong Kong.
Also no one or three day auctions will be allowed for these high ticket items, again to help ebay track the fraudsters who used to put them up in slap-dash quick manner with little time for ebay to pull their plug.
This is going to be very interesting.
The sad part is the this also includes vintage.
So many of our legitimate buyers in Hong Kong of Vintage Rolex PAtek etc, will no longer be able to bid.
When the eBay bigwig called us about this earlier today, we broached the subject of some kind of NAWCC connection as a confidence booster for buyers. (Not a guarantee) She is a mid-level person but she loved the idea and wanted me to send her an email outlining the idea.
I will not do this without the support of this group and I know we are still on the fence on this subject.
Anyway, the anti-fraud stuff is encouraging..
This is amazing news as ebay has been criticized for not doing something about this by many of us. Detractors suggested that ebay did not care and that as long as they "got their cut" they would allow the fraud.
Ebay proved the wrong with todays descision. Fraudsters who SELL phony Rolex, Patek, Cartier etc will be stopped in their tracks. So will those in China who try to send out fake second chance offers! This is good news!
