Has anyone seen an example of a Hamilton 6992B? It is discribed by Hamilton as a 992B with a lesser finish.

Don,
I don't believe the 6992B ever made it to production.

Don,
Hamilton had a few projects that never made production and the 6992b was one.
They had designs for a few other models that didn't make production for various reasons.
974C cheap finish 974B
2992B 37s
5992B a 992B w/sweep sec.no setting
7992B 37s
992-60hr.
992B-Bunn Special
Victory Model 15J "B" series
992BB Ball bearing instead of Bal. Jewels
I think "time" ran out for Hamilton and they closed for lack of demand for the product.

Don,
I did an internet search and only turned up one page:
http://experts.about.com/q/684/2314540.htm
nothing else.
Almost seems as if it does not exist which corrolates with the posts from Jim Haney and Rhett.
rrstd, would I also be able to get some additional information?? I am very interested.
Cheers

I believe Art Zimmerla spoke on this and other production notes at a regional last year...... If we could only get him on the web.....

I have seen photographs of the 6992B in the Hamilton material at the NAWCC library and the following description:
"Movement is 16 size round, 3/4 plate, lever set, open face type, 21 jewels. In basic construction and performance requirements this movement is the same as the grade 992B, all differences between the two grades being confined entirely to items affecting the appearance only. This movement has been created for the purpose of providing, for special applications, a lower priced watch capable of satisfying railroad timekeeping requirements. Plate, bridges, screw and various other parts are given a less expensive finish, and the train contains flat arm brass wheels intead of round arm gold wheels.
For performance requirements see grade 992B Specifications.
The serial number appears on the train side of the pillar plate and is characterized by the figures '6C' predeeding the numerals. The starting serial number is 6C001."
I just wanted to know if it ever made it out of the door. I know they made at least one prototype.
Yes, I need to contact Art Zimmerla about the Hamilton stuff we have been turning up from the Ravel donation. We have been through about 13 boxes now and we only have a few to go.
Thanks.
Don
