Case experts,

I need some help with a watch case. I can't read the first letter. In Shugart there is a wheat sheaf mark for a gold case but it looks somewhat different from the picture below. Who made the watch case? Is this case gold? What carat?

Thanks,
Stan

If it were gold, would it not be marked as such?

It is marked American Watch Case Company

Is the mark B. W. C. Co?

If so this is a Brooklyn Watch case...

In Ehrhardt's Trademarks book, the wheat marking is shown and indicates....

14K solid gold outside
8k solid gold inside

that is the only wheat marking I see in that refernce, but it is not surrounded by the 'box'...

That sure looks like the trade mark for a Brooklyn Wheat Grade (http://photos7.flickr.com/10756891_df9c6699ac_o.jpg) case to me!

Here's a Brooklyn description of their Wheat (http://static.flickr.com/28/100192902_22a273039f_o.jpg) grade cases. This type of case material is sometimes referred to as a double-stock case.
