was found in a movement holder that looks like a small camera from the outside. It seems of plastic construction with a shiny metal front. It is marked made in usa with a diamond inside a diamond with the small letter S large letter U and small letter C inside the diamond. The seconds bit is not used on the dial.

This could have been used as a travel clock. The factory made holder had an octagon shaped unmarked dial, winding knob at the 6 position so the movement was upside down, there was a slot for the lever set at the 8 pm position, also factory done.

It looks to be a 40's to 50's movement holder!! Who would be mass producing such an item for movements that hadn't been made in 30 years?

Happy hunting,

The case is about 4 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/4 inches tall.

New camera, I will have to figure out how to make the images bigger!!

Strangely enough, that round center thing in the ist pic actually resembles a ball.

Terry,

I tried editing on my end to make them larger and resent them.

Hope it worked.

Hi guys and gals,

The value of our local chapters is immense. I took this case to chapter 52's meeting today and was informed that the trademark was for the Standard Unbreakable Crystal Co., and that the case was bakelite, not plastic, dating before 1920 and that the lever set opening was not factory but filed out by someone adapting this to fit something besides a pendant set 18 movement.

BILL.....

BUT ISN'T THERE A TAB ON THE DIAL THAT FITS THE SLOT OF THE LEVER SET OPENING YOU DESCRIBE ?? SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS INDEED WAS DESIGNED FOR A LEVER SET WATCH AND NOT JUST FILED OUT AS YOU SUGGEST....WADDA YA THINK ??

There is a little hump in the slot that suggests that it was indeed filed out.

HUMMMM.....BUT DOESN'T THE DIAL HAVE A TAB THAT INDEED FITS THE SLOT ???....IF I REMEMBER RIGHT IT DOES AND IT SURE LOOKS LIKE THE DIAL EXTENDS OUT IN THE PICS...I BELEIVE IT'S A METAL OCTAGONAL DIAL WITH A TAB EXTENDING OUT AT THE 8 O'CLOCK POSITION FOR A LEVER IF MEMORY SERVES ME....BUT I COULD BE MISTAKEN...PULL THE DIAL AND YOU'LL SEE WHAT I MEAN...

BY THE WAY.....NEAT THAT YA FOUND OUT SOME INFO ON THE CASE...SURE DIDN'T LOOK OR FEEL LIKE BAKELITE THOUGH...I NEVER DID TAKE IT TO SHOW & TELL AT OUR CHAPTER 52 MEETING...AMAZING WHAT YA CAN FIND OUT AND THE WEALTH OF INFO OUT THERE...

YOUR BRO....
