I have been looking for a genuine Schild mainspring and cannot seem to find one. Does anyone know where I can find one or the original metric dimensions. The American watch spring catalogs are not very precise in their dimensions and are often in Dennison and are close to the original but often not the same. I have the old Swiss watch repair parts catalog and it has the "770" part number (all mainsprings have the same part number) but it does not give any dimensions. All advice is welcomed.

Bruce,

The metric dimensions for the spring as shown in my Bestfit catalog are: width 1.70 x strength 13 x length 13.5 inches. Swiss made mainsprings for your watch will be readily available, but a "genuine A. Schild" spring will be an elusive quarry. Parts for Swiss watches were produced by any number of specialty manufacturers. Movements of any particular calibre could have been made by any one of a number of manufacturers, under license. In addition, I'll bet your movement has been out of production for 50 years.

Please let us know how you decide to proceed and how you make out.

Hi,
According to the Flume catalogue (´72 edition) the metic dimensions are 1.70 x .13 mm and fitting a barrel of 11.5 mm in diameter. It shold be no problems ordering such a spring from Your ordinary supplier. Otherwise I have a complete but used barrel and spring. I have new springs too, but of this dimension they are a trifle short, making the running time slightly short. If you need any of this, let me hear from You.
