Maybe it's just a senior moment, but I recall reading, in the recent past, a clear, well written description on this board (or perhaps the 149 board) about replacing a mainspring in a Crescent Street jewelled barrel. I've tried using numerous keywords, without success, to find that thread. Can anyone direct me to that posting?

I don't know about the previous thread, but the Waltham jeweled barrel is fairly simple to disassemble. The barrel arbor is a two piece arbor that needs to be unscrewed in order to separate the main wheel from the steel barrel. The easy method is to re-attach the winding wheel to the arbor, after the barrel is removed from the watch. Then, holding the steel barrel with one hand you can use the winding wheel to unscrew the arbor sections. Once the arbor is removed the main wheel and barrel separate easily. I believe there was also a special wrench available to unscrew the arbor, but the winding wheel is ready to use as long as you are careful about your fingerprints on it.

Chuck,
Don't feel bad -- I've guessed wrong myself when looking for old topics here, and have taken quite a bit of heat for it in the past!
In this case, I searched for the words "Waltham barrel," and turned up the following results, among which I believe will be the one you're wanting:

Hope this helps!

Thanks to: Steve for locating the post I was looking for (it was the 001108.html), tictocdoc for the original posting, and to Jerry and rrwatch for their procedures in dealing with this repair.
