I was closely examining the plates of a Waltham model 1857 and have been wondering if the lettering on the plates and the design on the balance bridge are engraved or stamped. I presume the partial serial numbers on the underside of the plates are stamped, but I don't know about the script lettering on the tops of the plates and the fancy design work on the balance bridge. If anyone knows how this work was done, I'd appreciate learning. Thanks,

They look engraved to me.
