How come I don't tend to see these (on eBay, etc.). I see 16s and above in base metal cases and 12s in RGP/GF/solid gold cases, but not in base metal.

I'm looking for a nice little 12s Waltham that has a case that would withstand daily "beater" use.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Tim

My guess is that 12-size watches were mostly dress watches and may not have been worn as often. Hence they did not wear out as much and need a replacement case. Look for a nickel cased watch for daily wear. A Swiss watch (17-ligne) in a gunmetal case might also suit your needs.

The 12 size in base metal cases are out there in abundance. Most of the ones I have seen or possessed have looked to be originally cased that way. The originally cased ones are from the 1930's era. I have seen several base metal cases that are Elgin Hallmarked in the back cover. I have also seen a number of turn of the century 12S in base metal. To me, these are obviously a recase.
