View Full Version : Seth Thomas Model 5 17 Jewel
I have a Seth Thomas Model 5 17 jewel, open face, 18 size, stem set, two tone movement. The serial number is 231798. What sets this particular movement apart from the Maiden Lane watches other than wording. It looks remarkably similiar, to me anyway.

GD1, You answered your ownb question. What sets a Maiden Lane apart is that it is marked Maiden Lane on the movement. To the best of my knowledge, all Maiden Lanes were model 5's, but not all model 5's were Maiden Lanes.
Hope this answers it for you.
Tom
So, basically if it says Maiden Lane, you're paying maybe 10 times more for the wording over a comparable unmarked movement is the way I'm reading this. Thnaks for your reply.

Generally, if it says Maiden Lane it also has more jewels, is finished more carefully and is adjusted to closer tolerances.
You might compare the ST model 5 to the Waltham model 1888. The 1888 models range from 7 jewels to 21 jewels with a wide range of finish and adjustments.
The model 5 movements with the number of adjustments engraved and other interesting embellishments begin to approach the Maiden Lane in value for equivalent jewel counts.
