View Full Version : Kelly aluminum watch
A short time ago there was discussion of aluminum watches by Vacheron. Out of curiosity, has anybody run across an actual example of the Kelly aluminum watch? The (hopefully) linked advert is from Ehrnardt's 1978 Indicator, page 58. If so, any serial numbers (although it does not appear to be numbered) or photos available? The watch appears to be on a par with Cheshire or New York Standard. I have never seen nor heard of one of these existing.

MCH,
If you use the FIND tab and type in Kelly Aluminum Watch, you will find several previous threads that asked that same question. Nobody took a crack at answering the question. This would seem to imply that if they ever existed, there probably weren't many.

Micheal,
The engraved cut in the ad is not the same proof of existance that a photograph might be but almost I think. The artist who created the
cut was almost certainly working with a live model; a credible looking design it is too.
This watch and the "Berkeley Watch Co."Cornell
are Bigfoots (Bigfeet?)that have inhabited the literature for years without verification that they ever existed. If only a couple were made-perhaps to attract the attention of investors-then the advert, complete with cost, was placed a bit prematurely. I did notice somebody advertised for info on aluminum watches, including the Kelly,in the recent MART.

Hello,
I do recognize that the illustration is not photographic proof, but it shows a detailed movement, not just a case and dial. As Cort suggests, the detail lends hope of some existence. Also, Roy got this from a Becken catalogue, leaving the impression that Becken knew what they were selling, and probably had some of them.
Even with small quantities, there can still be a few of them out there, but this one has probably been beaten about to death.
