Has anyone have any information on a J Monard of Geneve. I have a very hi grade PW made for Giles Bros of Chicago. Except for the lack of wolf tooth wind gearing this is a kissin cousin to a Patek. I can find no ref to a watchmaker J. Monard in any of my books. Could this be a front company for Patek? Any input would be appreciated.

Jeff:

There are a couple of photos of a 16-size, 20-jewel Jules Monard watch in the February 2000 NAWCC Bulletin (pg. 98), along with a short set of notes explaining that the Jules Monard watches were imported by Wittnauer. Wittnauer ads in the Jewelers' Circular and Horological Review from the mid-to-late-1890's show this. Kathy Pritchard also has them listed in her excellent book on Swiss watches.

Please tell us more about your watch. If possible, pictures would be nice.
