The head of the transmission screw wheel has snapped off in my Dad's Hamilton Railway Special. So what advice would anyone have in removing the broken screw from the movement, and then where do I find a replacement screw?
Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the large or small winding wheel? The small wheel is called the crown wheel. The large wheel is the ratchet wheel. If the screw is broken in the crown wheel,it screws into a hub that can be replaced .The screw in the ratrchet wheel screws into the barrel arbor. That can also be replaced.BUT, first take a sharp instrument and try to turn the broken part of the screw out.Sometimes the head will break off when the screw is not turned in tight.I sometimes use two tweezers at a time.It doesn't work always but it is worth a try.On the 992B both screws are right hand threads.

Thanks for the response. It is the crown wheel screw that has broken off. I'll try your technique to remove it.
Now, is there anyplace one can buy replacement parts (specifically a crown wheel screw) for Hamilton? Or is it possible that a lessor quality Hamilton would have a compatible screw?

Doesn't this crown wheel screw tighten counter-clockwise and unscrew clockwise like most do? Try this to loosen it.

The screw actually did back out ccw - at least it would have had I managed to get it out that way. I couldn't get it to back out but found that using a sharp dental tool I could get it to turn cw - going deeper into the gear holding it. So I removed the plate and gear and just screwed it right on through. Success!! Thanks for all the help.
