J. H. Rosberg Watchmakers Bench. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3713568408&category=63591)
OK, I know there are many out in NAWCC land that are getting involved in watch repair. Here is a very nice Antique Bench, made by the most famous bench manufacturer. These are furniture grade benches. They were made in Chicago.
This bench is on eBay. Opens with a 199.00 bid and is located in Kentucky.
If I din't have 4 of them, I would buy this one myself. Nothing is better than repairing watches on a real watchmaker's bench.
OH, by the way, I am NOT the SELLER of this. I am simply passing this information along in hopes of helping someone who might be looking for a bench as I noticed it on eBay and thought to mention it here.
So please don't bump this off of the MB.

I have been noticing a lot of nice benches lately.
The prices they seem to go for is a bargin.
If they were listed in the antique furniture section, I bet they would bring a lot more.

Stan,
Thank you for the heads up on the bench. Nothing more satisfying than plying an antiquated craft on antique watches, using antique tools, at an antiquated bench. That is a treasure.

Having bought an old Rosberg last year, shortly after taking up this hobby, I agree with the fun of, paraphrasing Doug, an "old antique person" plying an antiquated craft on antique watches, using antique tools, at an antiquated bench. The unmentioned additional advantage is that little catch tray. Mine is lined with a thin, loose fabric that really works! Just last week a subsecond hand did a half-gainer into it instead of the carpet.

I'm looking for an antique watchmaker bench. I live in Texas but would travel to some extent.

My Rosburg was under a house in Sebastopol. The guy's son sold it for $100. I found enough scrap gold inside to buy it about 4 times. I have to agree that it is the best bench around. I bought a storage rental once that had already been picked for most of the Hamilton and Rolex stuff. It came with two benches and cool things like jeweler's kilns and display cabinets. $500 US and I sold the benches and display case for enough to pay for the lot. I kept the Rosberg. One more buy for $500 got me a Levin lathe and some boxed up stuff. Inside was an IWC watch with a broken staff. Which I fixed and sold for enough to pay for the whole lot. It pays to keep looking.

How do you tell if you have a Rosberg bench?
I always assumed mine was homemade.
when you roll the top back the sides can be folded down. What would be the reason for that? It has a foot wheel behind the left side door and a Mosley lathe under the roll top that has been converted to electric.

Mine has a label on the inside of the top rail.

I bought my bench in 1990, from the estate of the man I worked for from 1980 to 1983. It is the bench I used when I was working in his shop. But it must have had an interesting history, as witness the seal inside the top left drawer.
I just shot these photos this evening, and right now, the bench top is a mess - I have about six things going on at once, and the top surface is covered with projects all in mid-stride. But tomorrow morning, when I go to the bench to work, everything will be right where I left it, and I can dive right in.
