Library Committee to meet in Charlotte:

The Library and Research Center Committee of the National Watch and Clock Museum

has schedueled a meeting on occasion of the NAWCC National Convention in Charlotte next week.

The meeting will take place Saturday, July 5, 2003
in Room 215 at the Convention Center
from 9 to 11 am

The deliberations of the committe are public and we operate informally, which means time permitting we encourage non-committee NAWCC members to voice their opinions.

If you have any opinions or ideas how the LARC of NWCM could serve its mission of preserving and diseminating horological knowledge and information better , pleas stop by and let us know your thoughts.

Since we are on the subject of the library--does the Museum pay for the mart ads in the MART for the mail bid auction of duplicates? Or, do the nawcc members "eat" the cost of the two full pages of the sale listings?

I am not sure if there is an invoice by the Association (as publisher of the MART) to NWCM for this listing. Probably not.

I also personally feel it would be inapropriate to have such an invoice, because the LARC silent auction of unneded books has traditionally been limited to NAWCC members only. So it is a "service" to NAWCC members, even as it also is a fundraiser for the Library Aquisition Fund. (The procedures prohibit spending the silent auction preceeds for Libraryt abd REsearch CEnter (LARC) operating expenses.)

Giving the members an exclusive right to participate in this auction is the LARCS way of saying "Thank you" to those people who ultimately provide most of our financial support.
