I agree that you can NEVER have too many clamps or even TOO many "tools"

Great job Phil, this has to be a labor of love. When I have restored cases extensively, I figure I make about fifty cents an hour.

Phil,
That was a very fine job you did on the restoration of the vienna. Thank you for showing them.By the way, what kind of table saw is that, and the insert around the blade looks interesting. Good job.

 IMHO, my butt! You definitely earned bragging rights on that one, Phil! I only hope my poor old Ansonia OG turns out half as good,( and it started out twice as good as your "before" pictures). You are an inspiration as a craftsman.

Jim I may be wrong but the brass pendelum is the pendelum correctly used on these Viennas with two weights. I have seen the R/A porcelian type on the spring wound ones ,usually the smaller movements and shorter pendelum variety although personal preference certainly dictates change to what one likes personally. Phil,
I'm also very impressed and like Mike said it gives me the incentive to work on a couple projects. I enjoy seeing the work of skilled craftsmen/people.
I do have a question and I'll bet that you're the man who can answer it. Doing some research on clocks I came across a few clocks by different makers, that were called Vienna Regulators . What makes a Vienna Regulator a Vienna Regulator??

Nice job Phil,
I too am a crazy for these clocks. I have restored one case and built another from scratch and really enjoyed it. Are you going to fab a crown and finial for the tailpiece, or did I just miss it in the photo? My next case will be for a Franz Mosslinger 2 weight movement from about 1840. I can't decide whether the case should be the straight slender type or the lanternduhl (3 boxes) type. I think either would be correct for the period, what do you think?
Again, NICE JOB! and thanks for sharing.

My reading agrees with you, Phil. What is known today as a Vienna regulator is an Austrian evolution from (primarily) English styles, characterized by glass panels, narrow case, rectangular hood, triangular pediment, and finely made movements with rather short pendulum swings. They also run a long time on a winding, compared to other clocks of the time.

I just had to give this section 5 stars! I thought it was very informative and that the guys put alot of effort into this topic.I think it let us all learn a thing or two. I appreciate all who contributed to this post.As I said in the post it gives others incentive to work on their projects. :rolleyes:And with a little work,we will have a completed project like the ones talked about and are shown here. Mike 0136966

Nice job, no matter what type of Pendulum you install.
This makes think I should dig out my of ST school clocks and find someone who would enjoy them.
