Does anyone have the technique on how to open the spring barrel from a 16 size Waltham model 645? I didn't think beating on it would be the such a great idea, but, maybe that is the technique.

Ticker,

This is a two-piece barrel arbor. I hope you didn't "beat" on it! Find a way to safely and securely hold onto the barrel portion. Place the main winding gear into position on the top square of the barrel arbor and put the retainer screw back into position. Now, with CLEAN fingers, grasp the main winding gear and turn it in a counter-clockwise direction and unscrew the top portion of the two-piece arbor. The unit will now come apart.

Regards,
Doug S.
