I have obtained a 10s Lady Elgin movement with gilt plates, a mint dial (with the symbol made from the E.W.Co. instead of Elgin on it), only one of the original hands, and it is without a case. From everything I've read and seen, this particular movement is hard to case. It has a small pin on one edge to fit into a hole in the rim of the case, and just across from the pin is a screw with a half-head. There is no stem to help hold it in since it is keyset & keywind. Does anybody have, or anybody know where to find, or can point me in the right direction to find a case for this watch. They originally came in a hunter case. I've only been able to find one case, and it already had a movement in it (EBAY) and it was at $155 and not met reserve yet. I just need a case. I've checked everywhere I know to check. Can anyone tell me ANYWHERE I might find one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, jimbob (:{

Hi Jim,

Many, many of these were made in abt 4 basic name grades and one specific variation. Most were gold (either OF or hunting) cased, although I own (or have owned a fair amount ) in gold filled and silver, OF and HC.

The problem is that there are thousands of uncased movements because many of the gold ones were scrapped because of lousy, worn out condition or because they were heavy 18 or 14K and were scrapped duing either the GD or the late 70s gold run up!

Finding an empty case is a tough assignment--many of us would like to locate an original case for that "better" 10s Elgin, e.g. the F. Rubie grade!

What to do? -- 1. wait forever 2. switch it 3. buy a complete one for a good deal and then either a. save your mov't or b. sell your movement and apply it towards the newly acquired (hopefully) all original one! (no need to "switch" your mov't into an all original watch and destroy this newly purchased original watch!:biggrin:

Jon H: Thanks for your input. I was just considering doing just what you said - just getting one already together. There are two on Ebay right now, and one of them seems to be the original gold case and everything. I believe it is a smaller size one though. I think I'll just hang on to mine and maybe one day get lucky and find a case for it - you never know what might show up. Thanks again, jimbob (:{
